Awesome, Rik!

Susan Long has an essay called "Rediscovering Daddy," that has been published in Voices of Lung Cancer, an anthology comprised of stories and essays written by patients, caregivers, medical professionals, celebrities and friends. The first two books in the anthology, Voices of Lung Cancer and Voices of Alzheimers, were chosen as the inaugural books in the series because of the staggering statistics associated with these diseases.
The book series will be published and distributed through a commercial coventure with LaChance Publishing, which has pledged to donate 100 percent of the profits from book sales to The Healing Project. The next books in the series slated for publication are Voices of Breast Cancer, Voices of Alcoholism and Voices of Multiple Sclerosis.
To learn more about The Healing Project, to purchase a book, or to submit a story for future publications, visit file://www.thehealingproject.org/. The books can also be purchased on Amazon.com.
Way to go, Susan!

Hi, Scribblers!
I am very excited to announce that my April book release, MY LADYS TREASURE, is now available! This medieval historical romance has a little bit of everything: adventure, mystery, sensual love scenes, a couple of murders, and a quest to find King Arthurs lost Celtic treasure thrown in for added excitement. The talented team at Medallion Press did a fabulous job of the inside layout. One of the really neat touches is the image of the goblet used to separate scene breaks. Since my story is loosely based on the legend of the Holy Grail, this is the perfect touch.
Romantic Times Book Reviews magazine gave MY LADYS TREASURE 4 and a half stars! This is equivalent to a Fantastic, Keeper rating! Woo-hoo!
Lettetia, an official reviewer for Historical Romance Writers, gave my book a 9 out of 10 overall rating and said: The quest for the treasure; fighting treachery at every turn, is fast paced, well plotted, with a climactic ending. A feast for any medieval fan; MY LADYS TREASURE is well worth the time, and is sure to be a book you will want to revisit from time to time.
An excerpt from Chapter One is available on my website at http://www.catherinekean.com

Thanks and best wishes,
Catherine Keene

Here is a note from a concerned Scribbler:

Are you an animal lover? Can you make a home for a 9 year old West Highland terrier? Do you know anyone who could?

My daughter Rachel, 18, routinely visits Orange County pound. She says there is an older Westie there. Do not know the circumstances. But it does not look good for him. He is there until Friday and then would be put to sleep.

Rachel is a mush, a true animal lover, and although we cannot adopt him, I promised I would spread the word about him as far and wide as I could, hence this email. (We are full up at our house, with three inside cats and a 7-year-old Westie. And then an outside cat.)

Anyway, if you know of anyone who might be seeking an older dog to adopt, please contact us right away. You can call Rachel direct at 407-230-8867, and she will give you the scoop. Or you can email back.

If you are an animal lover, I know you will understand this email.

Appreciate any help orconsideration you can give, or if you know anyone who might be interested, please be in touch.

To the Adventures in Christian Writing group:

We have just learned of the death of Georgia Maynard, a former president of our group. I wanted to let you know that her memorial service will be held this Saturday--unfortunately at the same time as our regular meeting which begins at 9:30 a.m. We certainly will understand if some of you need to attend Georgias service rather than attending the meeting of Adventures in Christian Writing. The service will be held at the Reformation Chapel of First Presbyterian Church of Orlando, Saturday, April 21 at 10 a.m.

You will be able to read her obituary in todays Orlando Sentinel. Georgia was a very gracious lady and was an inspiring leader for our group several years ago. She will be missed.

What does the Jack Kerouac
Writers in Residence Project do for writers like you?

On Wednesday, May 2, the Florida Writers Association Orlando Chapter hosts a presentation by poet and creative nonfiction writer Darlyn Finch, former Kerouac Project writer in residence.

Darlyn Finch is the author of Red Wax Rose, a collection of stories and poems that has garnered praise from such publications as The Comstock Review. Almost as remarkable as the book itself is the path it took to publication. Much of the material in it was produced during the three months Finch recently spent as the writer in residence at the Kerouac House in College Park. One of the short stories in the book was the writing sample she submitted in application to the program. Red Wax Rose is also the first in Shady Lane Press Kerouac Writers Series, designed to showcase the talents of Kerouac House writers in residence.

Darlyn Finch is a poet known for her saucy style and engaging readings; she is also a gifted short story writer and storyteller. Her work has appeared in literary journals, newspapers, and online. Her poems have been featured on Poetic Logic on WMFE FM. She is a repeat winner of the Mt. Dora Festival of Art and Literature; cultural liaison for the Society of American Travel Writers Institute; and the eponymous Scribbler, author of the Scribbles literary newsletter and sunscribbles.com. She holds an English degree from Rollins College and is pursuing her Master of Fine Arts at Spalding University.

What is the Jack Kerouac Writers in Residence Project? Is the three month residency program for you? What does it take to be considered? Is publication by Shady Lane Press an automatic result of residency? Bring all your questions to FWAs May meeting. Darlyn has the answers. She will also read from her book and sign copies after the meeting. If you have never heard Darlyn read, do not miss this opportunity. Her new CD of Red Wax Rose will also be available.

Join us on Wednesday, May 2, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the University Club of Winter Park, located at 841 Park Ave. North. That is on the corner of Park and Webster, just north of the heart of downtown Winter Park. Come to the side entrance where you will see the long ramp. The meeting is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Tom Wallace at tommyflorida@earthlink.net, or at 407-332-0122.

Boost your career by attending book expos and festivals

On Wednesday, April 4th, the Florida Writers Association Orlando Chapter hosts a presentation on the benefits of book expos and festivals by Rik Feeney and Tom Wallace.

When it comes to writing-oriented events, is there more to life than conferences? Absolutely! Rik Feeney and Tom Wallace will tell you how to reap the rewards of attending events such as Book Expo America and the Virginia Festival of the Book. What kinds of presentations and programs should you attend? Who will you meet? How much will it cost? What will you really get out of your attendance? How can you make the transition from attendee to presenter?

Rik Feeney is a publishing and marketing consultant, ghostwriter, workshop presenter, and the author of 28 books, including Back Handsprings: The Secret Techniques, released earlier this year. A former gymnastics coach in the US, Australia, and Bermuda, his numerous books on the sport have been used by athletes, coaches and parents. He is a frequent attendee of Book Expo America (BEA), sponsored by the American Booksellers Association. At last years Expo in Washington, DC, he was offered contracts by two publishers, and literally bumped into his new book agent.

Tom Wallace is a refugee of the corporate world and now a freelance writer and editor. His writing clients include PR and advertising firms, small businesses, entertainment companies, and private individuals. He has edited and rewritten book-length nonfiction, memoirs, academic materials, and novels in such genres as mystery, horror, chick lit, suspense, and mainstream. He recently attended the Virginia Festival of the Book, produced by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, where he represented his own interests and those of some of his clients.

Join us on Wednesday, April 4th, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the University Club of Winter Park, located at 841 Park Ave. North.
