Enjoy!
We Scribblers encourage one another to patronize our wonderful local independent bookstores (like the Rice Family Bookstore at Rollins College, or the king of them all, Urban Think!). We also appreciate our friends at the big chains, like Borders, Barnes & Noble, and BooksaMillion. But when you absolutely cannot get out of the house to pick up a book, there is Amazon. This week, Red Wax Rose made its debut on Amazon. To buy the book, or write a review (which would be greatly appreciated, for those Scribblers who have already bought it and read it) go to: http://www.amazon.com/
Type in Red Wax Rose or Darlyn Finch in the Search bar. Then click on the book cover. Voila!
Of course, you can always buy the book online at http://www.shadylanepress.com/
Celebrations:
Kyle Minor has accepted an appointment as Visiting Scholar & Writer-in-Residence at the University of Toledo. He has new work forthcoming this summer and spring in the Gettysburg Review (a novella) and the Southern Review (an essay.) He will be co-editor of a new selection of Chekhov stories due out Spring 2008 from New American Press. He encourages everyone to read "Twinflowers," by Laura van den Berg, in the Fall 2006 issue of Third Coast.
Congrats to both Kyle and Laura!
Leslie Dawson just had her first article published in May's issue of Lifestyle Magazine! It's a personality profile called "Someone you should know" - about the conductor at La Nouba - Benoit Glazer.
We are so excited and proud, Leslie! This is the start of many more.
Scribblers Sharing Info:
Terry Odell is a featured author at The Romance Studio this month.
Whoooo-Hoooo! Go, Terry!
http://theromancestudio.com/who5.php
Here is a great review of Terry Odell's latest e-book:
WHATs IN A NAME? by Terry Odell is a well-written, intriguing novel filled with plot twists and turns that kept me riveted from beginning to end. It is all that a romantic mystery should be, and then some. ....
WHATs IN A NAME? is a suspense-filled tale that unites strangers, uncovers deceptions and shows that love, regardless of the names of its participants, knows no bounds. I enjoyed every word, and if romance with a hearty helping of suspense appeals to you, you'll love it, too.

Dear Great Books Leaders and Participants,
The Tampa Bay Great Books Council is pleased to announce its theme and reading selections for the third annual Tampa Bay/Florida Great Books Conference to be held in Longboat Key, Florida on January 18-20, 2008. The conference theme will be "Nineteenth-Century Russia: Lives in Conflict, Nation in Turmoil". The three discussions (two on Saturday, January 19, and one on Sunday, January 20) will be: Leo Tolstoy's Resurrection, Fydor Dostoevsky's Notes From the Underground, and Ivan Turgenev's Fathers and Sons.
Even if many of you have already read one or more of these classics, we hope that you will consider making plans to join us for a great weekend of intellectual stimulation in the beautiful atmosphere of the Longboat Key Hilton Resort Hotel, just a few miles west of Sarasota on the west coast of Florida. The tuition will be the same as last year's--$150 per participant--and we have negotiated a very good room-per-night rate for the winter season. The conference will be limited to a MAXIMUM OF FIFTY PARTICIPANTS, so it will be first-come, first-served in the registration process.
We will be sending you more detailed registration information flyers and forms late in the summer. Make your long-range plans now!

Secretary, Tampa Bay Great Books Council

http://www.freeloadpress.com/
Click on Booklist; find GRAMMAR, ETC.; register (as student or Other), then download using Adobe Reader. This process takes less than 10 minutes, and the price is right!
This e-text, which will also be available as a printed book, is made possible by Freeload Press in response to the high cost of textbooks. Writers seeking a reference guide to usage, punctuation, etc. will find this handbook useful.

Just a quick reminder of our next FWA meeting on Saturday, May 5 at 2:00PM at the Northwest Branch of the Seminole County Library.
We'll have "novel" talk! To wit, how to write a great novel according to the Marshall Plan. Perhaps spice it up with the "Withrow corollary".
Please plan to attend and share this info with a friend or colleague!

Please let your readers know of our upcoming Book Reading (Behind Every Door) with Award-Winning author, Terry Godbey, on Wednesday, May 23, at 7:00 p.m., at The Casements, a division of the Department of Leisure Services for the City of Ormond Beach.
In Behind Every Door, Terry Godbey gives us a chapbook collection of poetry that inspires comfort with the familiarity of everyday events and a blend of foreboding and eager anticipation of changes to come with love, aging and death. She reveals ordinary moments of life in such a way as to make them seem a magical dimension only shared by the speaker, a few select characters, and the reader.
Throughout this collection, Godbey gives a fresh voice to the ups and downs of life by filling those moments of delight and despair with magic and mystery. With her words, we see the extraordinary just behind the ordinary.
About the author: Terry Godbey's chapbook Behind Every Door won Slipstream's 19th Annual Poetry Chapbook Contest in 2006. She was a two-time Pushcart Prize nominee and a finalist for the Rita Dove Poetry Award, also in 2006. She has published more than 70 poems in literary magazines such as Poet Lore, Rosebud, Primavera, CALYX Journal, Potomac Review, Pearl and Rattle. Ms. Godbey is a copy editor at the Orlando Sentinel and lives in Maitland with her husband and son.
Light refreshments will be served.
Any questions or comments, please contact me at 386-676-3216. The Casements is located at 25 Riverside Drive, Ormond Beach, FL.
Directions: From I-95, take Exit 268, Ormond Beach/Ocala. Upon taking the exit, one will be on State Road 40/Granada Blvd. Come east toward the beach on SR 40/Granada Blvd, about 6 miles, cross the Granada Bridge, make first right on Riverside Drive; house will be on your left, river on your right. Proceed to the stop sign, turn left on Casements Drive, and left into our parking lot. We have ample parking.

Ruth Blake, former owner of Dickens-Reed Bookstore and Bistro in Mt. Dora, writes:
If you used to enjoy dancing in my bistro to the classic 70's rock and roll of The Lost Cats, they're back and performing at Pisces Rising twice a month....and now I'm on the other side of the microphone, singing with them! We'll be playing the deck May 12 and May 19, from 7-10:30pm.
And if you haven't heard about The Retro, Mount Dora's newest wine cellar and bistro (located in the basement of the Renaissance Building on Donnelly Street in the old location of The Frosty Mug), please check it out.....fabulous, imaginative food at great prices, and live entertainment several nights a week. Call 407)758-2576 for reservations and information.
I wish you, my former customers, the best. What I primarily miss about the bookstore business is seeing all of you on a regular basis. Hope all of you are doing well and enjoying life in our beautiful little town of Mount Dora.....
All the best,
Ruth Blake
