We'd rather not talk about it, but we all have them. The rejected stories. The stories that don't quite work. The stories we've stuck in a drawer and would rather forget about. Why not give one of your orphaned stories a chance for a new life? Bring it to Suzy Spraker's REVISION AS WRITING workshop on Saturday, November 4 for revision rescue.
Suzy Spraker is a fiction writer who has been published in The Greensboro Review, The Southern Review, Fiction, Confrontation, and the Berkeley Fiction Review. She teaches creative writing at the University of Central Florida.
Writers often see revision as a kind of punishment for not getting the story right the first time, but review is a natural step in the writing process. In this workshop, Suzy Spraker will help you make friends with revision. You'll practice strategies for characterization, structure, and scene and learn how revision is an opportunity for your story. Bring a story or chapter to work on.
Time is short. Register today.

HOW TO WORK WITH A FREELANCE EDITOR
On Wednesday, November 1, the Florida Writers Association Orlando Chapter hosts a presentation by freelance editor, Tom Wallace.
Wallace wrote and edited extensively in the corporate world, an experience that drove him crazy enough to begin his current career. As a freelance editor, his clients have included novelists, screenwriters, journalists, academicians, entrepreneurs, psychologists, ex-cons, and comic book creators. Whether you want to do business as a freelance editor, or with a freelance editor, or just pick up some tips on self-editing, this event is for you. How can you find the right freelance editor for your material? What do you need to know about the writer/editor relationship? What’s the difference between copy editing and content editing? What makes editors so darn nitpicky? If you want the answers to these and all your editing questions, ask Tom Wallace. He’s our answer man in November.
Join us on Wednesday, November 1, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the University Club of Winter Park, located at 841 Park Ave. North. That’s on the corner of Park and Webster, just north of the heart of downtown Winter Park. Come to the side entrance where you’ll see the long ramp. The meeting is free and open to the public.
For more information, contact Tom Wallace at tommyflorida@earthlink.net, or at 407-332-0122.

The next monthly meeting of Adventures in Christian Writing will be Saturday, October 21, 2006, 9:30 a.m. at the Edington Ministry Center, First Presbyterian Church, Orlando. Room 310-B. Come early for some refreshments.
Your writing assignment for the September meeting, as suggested by Don Royster: An essay, poem or story on the importance of church in your life. Limit it to one printed page and be sure to bring a copy to be turned in after you have shared your writing with the group.
Our speaker for the October 21 meeting will be Joy Wallace Dickinson. Many of you have been enjoying her column, "Florida Flashbacks" in the Orlando Sentinel on Sundays. My husband and I have just finished reading her wonderful book, Orlando, City of Dreams. I have asked her to bring along some copies because I know several of you will want it for your home library. It brings a wealth of information about our chosen community and its history.
If you know of any aspiring writers who would like to be informed of our meetings let me know. Send along their email addresses, their snail mail addresses and telephone numbers.
Keep praying for Nancy Allen, a talented writer and one of our dedicated members, as she recovers from surgery.

Holly Riggs is a thriving creative person in Orlando, a wonderful accomplishment all by itself.
However, she cannot tell you how many people have uttered these words to her, "I wish I could do that."
Whether its about writing poetry, performing, Drawing, making jewelry, her response is always the same: "YOU CAN" She generally gets a half smile and nod and that's the end of it. It has not been enough for her to believe it; those people with unrealized creative dreams have to believe in themselves.
Holly says, "Even people with creative careers get creatively blocked. So I did something about it. I created an interactive learning outlet for everyone who as ever dreamed of doing that one creative thing, OR people who just need a little boost creatively. I have a very special workshop coming up which includes writing, intuitive drawing, breathing techniques, and more. I would like to invite you and all your friends to join us. Only one catch: there are 12 spots available and once I meet that quota, we will have to schedule for a later date. So get back to me asap, and we will get started on making creative dreams your reality."
