Scribbles # 334 - September 29, 2006

Today we laid to rest in the Rollins Chapel the lovely and talented Susan Strother-Clarke, a columnist for the Orlando Sentinel. It was overwhelming how well-loved she was, by her devoted husband Ken Clarke, by her co-workers, and by her friends.

Scribblers Sharing Info:

AN INTRODUCTION TO SCREENWRITING

On Wednesday, October 4, the Florida Writers Association Orlando Chapter hosts a presentation on screenwriting by AJ Robinson.

FWA's Greater Orlando Regional Director AJ Robinson was the head writer on the TV show, THE GREEN ROOM. His first screenplay, WICCAN'S LAIR, was produced by PC Productions, a local indie company. He's completed a dozen in all. Perhaps reflecting his devotion to, and admiration for, his wife and daughter, his stories feature strong female characters. That's true not only of his screenplays, but of the three novels he's completed as well.

Want to learn about that mysterious thing called a screenplay? What are the essential ingredients? Why is structure important? Do you need an agent to break into Hollywood? For the answers to these and all of your questions, come and hear AJ Robinson. He's our answer man in October.

Join us on Wednesday, October 4, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the University Club of Winter Park on the corner of Park Avenue and Webster, just north of the heart of downtown Winter Park. The meeting is free and open to the public. For more information contact Tom Wallace at tommyflorida@earthlink.net, or at 407-332-0122.

CONTRIBUTORS NEEDED IMMEDIATELY!

Local Orlando contributors wanted for upcoming family restaurant guide to Orlando called Hungry? Orlando Family: The Lowdown on Where Real Families Eat. Focus is on interesting restaurants (all types ... diners, trendy, global, American, live music, hamburger/hot dog stands, etc .,) in the city and nearby suburbs that are family friendly for any reason.

This is your chance to support your favorite local family friendly restaurant and let the world know why dining (and raising kids) in Orlando is so great. Foodies of all occupations and day jobs are encouraged to apply. So if you know Orlando and care to share your neighborhood secrets, we want to hear from you!

You get a full byline after every review/sidebar you write, and you get a 2-3 line bio in the back of the book. You get the pleasure of seeing your name and opinions in print, and available through all major booksellers (Barnes and Noble, Borders, Amazon, etc). Thousands of people will read your words. You get to support your favorite restaurant/eatery (many of which are small, family-owned businesses that appreciate the attention; they can't afford an advertising budget).

And, you receive a complimentary copy of the published book, a deep discount on additional copies, and an invitation to the launch party and other Glove Box Guides events.

If this sounds like something you want to be a part of, please reply to
camilla@hungrycity.com with HUNGRY ORLANDO in the subject line, and we'll provide more information and samples.
