Calls for Submissions:

From Publishers Weekly July 26
Partnering with the online entertainment company FanLib, HarperCollins is unveiling a contest for romance readers that invites fans to create an original story on the Web. Sponsored by the house's Avon Books imprint, the "Express Your Desires" contest is scheduled to launch on August 23 and will unfold over an eight-week period.
After fans vote on their favorite story premise, listed at the contest's homepage at http://avonfanlit.com/, weekly submissions will be judged by a group of Avon authors. The judges, among them Julia Quinn and Victoria Alexander, will also have their books (along with other select Avon authors) plugged on the contest's homepage. The highest-rated extracts will then become part of the unfolding story, which Avon will publish as an e-book at the close of the contest.
Speaking to the contest, HC CEO Jane Friedman said the outreach "enables us to reach readers and aspiring authors through a unique online community, and bring them inside the writing process to interact with their favorite authors and our talented editorial staff."
